The UN/UNEP Minamata Convention on Mercury demonstrates how credible science can shape global policy. After a series of meetings and intergovernmental agreements, the text of the convention was adopted 12 years ago, and it began to be valid as MEA 8 years ago. Now the 6th Conference of Member States (COP 6 ) is being held in Geneva. EASD representative participate in this process, and see progress, commitment, and in gaps identification. Delegates address the challenges Parties face in eradicating mercury exposure, such as trade control, waste management, and mercury use in cosmetics, dental fillings, artisanal and small-scale gold mining, and industrial processes.
