Sustainable Impact Assessment  (SIA) is an approach for exploring the combined economic, environmental and social impacts of proposed policies, programmes, strategies and action plans. The main objective of SIA is to improve the performance of sustainable development strategies, plans, programs and policies through the promotion of positive and mitigate the negative effects, as well as the prevention of negative effects transmission on future generations. Important principes of SIA:

-all three sustainable development aspects are fully integrated into the assessment

-a focus beyond numbers

-stakeholder involvement

-transparency and accountability

-proportionate analysis

– transparency and responsibility

SIA process takes place in four specific phases:

-Phase 1: Relevance analysis

-Phase 2: Delineation

-Phase 3: Impact analysis

-Phase 4: Optimisation
